Widget and Browser didn't much care that I was emptying the pool. However, when the hose broke they jumped right in and "helped".
I got this new bed for Widget because she likes to burrow and be covered up when she sleeps. However, Browser quickly decided that it was his. Now the battle of the bed begins. Both dogs have actually been sleeping in it at the same time so I'm hopeful that once the weather cools off again they will learn to snuggle and share. This was the first attempt at sharing.
Well, it's snake season again in Texas which of course means: we have another snake bite.
This time Browser was the recipient. I was rather surprised that he got bit since he is SO wary of snakes and seems to have a better sense of smell than Widget does. But, nonetheless, he got bit right on his snout. We had seen a copperhead about 10 days ago so I'm guessing that was the culprit. I haven't seen a rattlesnake in the yard but most of our neighbors have reported them so it could have been either.
Browser is doing well. He spent the day at our regular vet's office getting the bulk of the treatment and then at the emergency vet for overnight observation. He's home and back to his usual self. The swelling is mostly gone and he just has a couple of black spots on his snout where the fangs went in. Hopefully he'll have minimal scarring since we got him to the vet immediately and they had the anti-venom on hand to administer right away.
I had just been telling Brent that I wanted the tall grass in the yard cut down because I was worried about snakes. So, now we'll be getting the tall grass cut down because there ARE snakes. Life is always an adventure living in Texas with two very curious Dalmatians!
