I have to admit, keeping up with blogging takes a lot of effort.
I’ve been quite lax in my updates. Mostly because there isn’t that much interesting going on. It’s just life as usual with the Dotted Duo.
Widget is going to be turning 4 years old in a few days. I still can’t believe it’s been four years. Her activity levels have slowed a little to where she’s more like a normal dog now 🙂 She’s still very energetic but she finally has learned to appreciate the art of napping. For a few minutes anyway. She’s had some health issues this last year that really concerned me, but as far as all the extensive tests have shown – there isn’t actually anything medically wrong with her. Her vet is treating it as a psychogenic disorder. With her anxiety issues, I feel it’s a good diagnosis. She’s starting on Anipryl tomorrow. It’s a medication that is used for both the symptoms of Cushing’s disease (of which she has several symptoms but does not actually have it) and a cognitive disorder in senior dogs. It works by lowering the dopamine levels in the brain. I’m excited for her to start on it. I’m hoping it can not only reduce her excessive water drinking and hair loss but also maybe tone down some of her anxiety-type issues. I’ll try to remember to report any changes here in case anyone is searching for information on using Anipryl in this type of situation (since this is not a standard use for the drug).
Browser is doing great as well. He’s such a sweet boy and just loves everybody he comes in contact with. He and Brent have really formed a bond over the last few months which is pretty cute. Browser does suffer from an allergy to no-see-um bites (which coincidentally I have as well). I just ordered some My Bug Free Paws from Skillful Paws, my friend Christina’s company, to see if that will help repel the bugs. The new bug repellant will be available soon in her online store. Hopefully it will help poor Browser as he itches all the time (as do I!!). I used Dr. T’s Mosquito Repellant last year on the lawn which worked great. This year, however, it’s not working quite as well because we’ve had more rain.
It’s been a couple of years since I took either dog through a training course so I decided to sign Browser up for agility. He’s not the most coordinated boy so I don’t have dreams of him being a superstar at agility but I want him to gain a little confidence with “objects”. It’ll be good for both of us to go through a class and spend some one-on-one time together as well.
Well, there you go. My annual update (just kidding). Maybe having the agility class and reports on Widget’s (hopeful) improvement will prompt me to post more often.
